On Wednesday 26th September, TQ hosted a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The morning was well attended, and everyone tucked into the cake, savoury goodies and hot drinks on offer. It was great to meet some of our clients face to face as so often we only communicate by phone or email. Family and friends of the staff also popped in, along with contacts from local businesses.
The majority of the cakes and goodies on offer on the day were hand made by the TQ team. We held our own Great British Bake Off competition; the hot topic of conversation for weeks had been what everyone would be baking. Peter was the favourite to win as he’s our regular office baker, providing amazingly decorated cakes for special occasions, and sometimes just when the mood takes him (ask Laura about the unicorn cake he made for her birthday!) On the day he blew heads off with his chilli choc brownies, then cooled them with yummy cinnamon buns. Michel, one of our newest recruits, made flapjacks; James made rice crispy treats; Zoe, another new recruit, made sausage rolls and carrot cakes; Laura made cookie dough, marshmallow, pretzel brownies and also brought in her husband’s lemon meringue cupcakes; Maria from our Chatteris office made salted caramel millionaires shortcake. The winner however was Courtney for her showstopping Kinder Bueno cheesecake! Congrats Courtney! She was embarrassingly presented with her star baker wooden spoon and badge the day after the coffee morning.
To encourage the donations to flow in we held a raffle with prizes donated by staff and local businesses. The tickets were drawn after our monthly staff meeting on 1st October.
Probably the most sought after prize was a day trip for two to Bruges, kindly donated by local travel provider Sunfun International (www.sunfuninternational.com/brugge-extended-day-trip). Top prize was won by Mr N Sherwood, a golfing friend of Phil’s.
The Tap Room, located on Bridge Street, St Ives (www.thetaproom.co.uk) kindly donated a £40 voucher to use in the bar & restaurant. This was won by our very own Tony Wright, and used within a few days of winning!
TQ put forward a day at the races for two to see one of the racehorses sponsored by Thomas Quinn run. This was won by local electrician Mr P Wood of Fenland Electrical Solutions.
And so.. drum roll please.. the total raised on the day and from raffle tickets was… £780!! BUT.. the lovely partners here at TQ have “rounded it up” to £1,000!!! An amazing sum of money which will help Macmillan to provide a range of support services to not only those diagnosed with cancer, but their friends and families as well.
We would like to say one more massive thank you to everyone who was involved: everyone who donated, everyone who came and ate some cake, everyone who donated a raffle prize and everyone who baked – Thank you!!
